Vogue Italia’s Black Spring

Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani has Cojones. The entire July issue will feature black models exclusively and 17 year old Brit, Jourdan Dunn will grace the cover.
When Franca Sozzani was asked if she feared a backlash in Italy she bluntly said: “Maybe in our country it is not the best idea. But I don’t care. I think it is not my problem if they don’t like it—it’s their problem.”
Upon hearing about this in April, I couldn’t help but wonder how such a bold move would work here in the United States. Do you think Americans would be receptive to an all-black issue of American Vogue?

Xica,
I think it’s great that Italian Vogue is bold enough to do this. I am impressed. I just don’t think it will fly here in the States. The racial divide is too deep. I can see the conflicts already. There will be accusations of racism and who knows what else. I would love to see it, but think it will never happen in a mainstream fashion magazine.
I think it would go over well in the us. besides we may soon have the first black president. progess and change are in the air. as recent as the 1950’s. the thought of a black president would have been a joke. old ideas and belifs about race in america are changing.
Tesa,
Senator Obama’s run for the presidency is a testament to the great need we have for change. It’s time. It’s now or never.
